Mike Norvell on DJ Uiagalelei’s transition to Florida State: ‘It’s been great’

DJ Uiagalelei has returned to the east coast with him transferring to Florida State this offseason. That move to Tallahassee has apparently gone as well as it could have according to Mike Norvell.

Norvell discussed Uiagalelei joining the Seminoles’ program with the media during the Jacksonville Seminole Boosters Tour last month. Simply put, his adjustment as one on their team has been a good one for both sides.

It has been great,” said Norvell.

A lot of that has to do with who Uiagalelei is rather than who he is as just a quarterback. He has become a welcome face on their team that their other players enjoy being around on and off the field. That’s especially so in his position room as he does his best to provide and help out their other prospects.

“You know, I think he is a remarkable young man. I mean it starts there – his character, the person that he is, the way that his teammates have embraced him, the way that he has embraced this team,” said Norvell. “I mean it all starts with the work. He really has transitioned well in practice. He has transitioned well in understanding what we’re asking to do offensively. You see a team that just gravitates to him.”

“He has really helped our quarterback room because we’ve got some very talented young quarterbacks and guys that I think are going to have incredible futures. They love him and they love the experiences that he has had. The ups, the downs, the challenging moments,” Norvell continued. “He’s not somebody that sits to himself. He’s trying to pour into those guys to help them accelerate the process for what they can do and what they can accomplish.”

Uiagalelei joins Florida State with it being his third school for his fifth collegiate season. He arrives after appearing in 48 games, including 40 starts, over the last four years at Clemson and Oregon State. With him comes statistics of 8,391 passing yards on 59.1% completion along with 78 total touchdowns. 57 of those have come from his arm with him scoring 21 more on the ground.

Uiagalelei came in as one of 17 additions for the ‘Noles as part of the No. 4 portal class per On3’s 2024 Team Transfer Portal Rankings. He’s their second-highest rated addition as the No. 50 overall transfer and No. 10 QB per On3’s 2024 Transfer Portal Top Players.

Uiagalelei has brought a veteran presence in his time with Florida State so far. That has already made him very valuable for them before he even takes a snap as their starter for this upcoming season.

Just a really wonderful addition to our team,” said Norvell.
