Duo charged in fatal shooting of Paterson man on city street

A man and woman were arrested Monday and charged in the shooting death of a Paterson man last week, authorities said.

Mathew Amaro, 27, and Tiffany Medina, 26, both of Paterson, face charges in the death of city resident Twahee Howard, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes.

Howard, 44, arrived shortly before 9 p.m. on June 2 at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds after gunfire erupted near Chadwick and Weiss streets. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

“During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Mathew Amaro and Tiffany Medina were involved in the incident,” Valdes said in a statement.

Amaro is charged with murder, conspiracy, and possession of a handgun, all first-degree crimes, along with two second-degree weapons offenses, and third-degree possession of drugs.

Medina is charged with first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, and third-degree drug possession.

Attorney information for Amaro and Medina was not listed Tuesday in court records.
