Israeli drones kill one after Hezbollah fires dozens of rockets

At least one person was killed in an Israeli drone attack in southern Lebanon, shortly after the pro-Iranian Hezbollah movement claimed it had fired dozens of rockets into northern Israel, the Lebanese state news agency reported on Tuesday.

The National News Agency (NNA) said an Israeli drone attack on the border town of Naqoura severely injured one person, who later died from the wounds he sustained. It said that the person killed was a civilian.

The Israeli military did not initially comment on the matter.

On Tuesday, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for several attacks on northern Israel.

It also said it fired dozens of Katyusha rockets at Israeli targets near the Lebanese border.

The Israeli military reported that around 50 missiles from Lebanon had been identified. Some were successfully fired, others fell in open terrain. There were no injuries, it said.

In a statement earlier Tuesday, Hezbollah said that "in response to an Israeli overnight attack in Hermel, eastern Lebanon, fighters bombed the headquarters of the Artillery Regiment and the Armoured Brigade of the 210th Golan Division in the Yardun Barracks with dozens of Katyusha rockets."

The Israeli attack on an area on the border with Syria left five killed, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported late Monday.

A Lebanese security source said two Hezbollah commanders were among those killed.

Since the war in the Gaza Strip began eight months ago, there have been daily military confrontations between the Israeli army and the Hezbollah militia and other groups in the border area between Israel and Lebanon. There have been deaths on both sides.

The mutual shelling has caused severe destruction in towns on both sides of the border.

Around 150,000 people have been evacuated or left the combat zone. Recently, the situation has escalated even further, and there are fears of a larger military confrontation in the region if the Israel-Hamas conflict continues.
