In a series of remarks set to be published in the upcoming book “Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Took America Through The Looking Glass,” former US President Donald Trump described pop star Taylor Swift as “unusually beautiful” and questioned the authenticity of her liberal political views.
The book, written by Variety’s Ramin Setoodeh, delves into Trump’s reality television series “The Apprentice” and features his thoughts on various public figures, including Swift.
“I think she’s beautiful – very beautiful! I find her very beautiful,” Trump said in an excerpt shared by Variety.
He added, “I think she’s liberal. She probably doesn’t like Trump. I hear she’s very talented. I think she’s very beautiful, actually – unusually beautiful!”
Trump questions Swift’s political liberalism
Commenting on Swift’s political views, Trump expressed surprise that a country star could be successful while being liberal.
“She is liberal, or is that just an act? She’s legitimately liberal? It’s not an act? It surprises me that a country star can be successful being liberal,” Trump remarked.
When asked about Swift’s music, Trump admitted, “Don’t know it well.”
Swift broke her political silence in 2018 to endorse Democrat candidates Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper in the US midterm elections.
This move came after she faced criticism for not speaking out against Trump during the 2016 presidential election.
Since then, Swift has continued to be politically active, most notably endorsing Joe Biden in the 2020 election and frequently encouraging her fans to register to vote.
Swift’s political influence and Trump’s fluctuating views
Trump’s views on Swift have wavered over the years, particularly as Swift has voiced her opposition to him and his policies.
In 2012, Trump tweeted about taking a “beautiful picture” with Swift and expressed excitement when she was announced as the co-host of the Grammy nominations television special. However, Trump’s opinion shifted when Swift criticized Tennessee Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn in 2018.
At the time, Trump told reporters,
I’m sure Taylor Swift doesn’t know anything about her, and let’s say that I like Taylor’s music about 25 percent less now, okay?
Despite Trump’s fluctuating opinions, Swift has remained a significant figure in the political sphere. In September, her efforts helped Vote.org achieve its most successful Voter Registration Day since 2020 after she urged her followers to register via social media.
