World Bank predicts stable but sluggish global economic growth

A World Bank forecast reports that the global economy is stabilizing for the first time in three years, despite geopolitical tensions and high interest rates - albeit at a low level.

As in the previous year, the global economy will grow by 2.6% this year, the World Bank announced in Washington on Tuesday. This is a slight rise on the level it had forecast in January at plus 0.2 percentage points.

For the years 2025 and 2026, the World Bank predicts economic growth of 2.7%.

The report says the global economy finally seems to be heading for a so-called soft landing. This means less inflation without a recession and high unemployment.

However, the bank says that more than four years after the start of the pandemic and the subsequent global shocks, it is clear that the world - and developing countries in particular - have not yet found a reliable path to prosperity.

It warns that by the end of this year, one in four developing countries will be poorer than before the coronavirus pandemic.
