Max Verstappen fans are now saying his newest helmet might be ‘one of the best’ in F1 history

Max Verstappen will be heading into the European leg of the Formula 1 season with a spring in his step.

The Canadian Grand Prix had the potential to be a banana skin for Max Verstappen like it was for his teammate Sergio Perez.

And while the Mexican ended up failing to get out of Q1 and then hit the barriers in the race, Verstappen was stood on the top step of the podium with the familiar Dutch anthem playing in the background.

Verstappen announced on his Instagram on Tuesday that he would be wearing a special helmet for the races in Europe this season.

His new design is dedicated to the incredible support he receives during this section of the calendar and has unsurprisingly gone down very well with his fans.

Max Verstappen reveals new helmet design for the Spanish Grand Prix

Off the back of last season, F1 fans were almost certain that Max Verstappen was once again going to dominate the sport this year.

However, he’s already missed out on as many victories in 2024 as he did in 2023 and the gap between the top teams has noticeably narrowed.

That has seen Sergio Perez being caught out at the last three races and despite signing a new contract with the team for at least the 2025 season, appears to be under serious pressure.

Verstappen has shown his quality in Imola and Canada although even he couldn’t drag Red Bull up to a race-winning position in Monaco although he did make a slight error in qualifying that weekend.

He’s now entering a part of the season where the tracks should theoretically suit his car.

That may be the case but one of the other things Verstappen can rely on in the next few races is a huge amount of support from the crowds.

In his home race in the Netherlands, Red Bull’s home race in Austria and Hungary as well, it’s not uncommon to see huge banks of Dutch fans all wearing orange in the crowd.

Verstappen has moved to honour that support with his latest helmet design which has gone down very well.

Verstappen wrote on the Instagram post showcasing his new helmet: “A tribute to all the fans 🧡 My orange helmet for 2024.”

He then said in the video: “This helmet definitely means a lot to me. There are a few special races in Europe with a lot of orange fans.

“That’s why I’ll definitely be wearing this one. As you can see the details in the helmet, you can see the fans in the background, it’s a tribute to all the fan support that I get.

“Keeping it very, very orange, very bright so you can see it. I think it came out really cool, I hope you will like it as well.”

His fans were blown away by the new design and made their feelings clear in the comments.

Custom helmet designs aren’t uncommon in Formula 1 anymore but it does sometimes make it difficult to tell who’s who on track at a glance.

However, Verstappen wearing a bright orange helmet featuring pictures of his fans will make him the most recognisable driver on the circuit.
