A renowned activist and a chieftain of the Labour Party, Ikenna Azomchine has chided the organised labour for suspending its nationwide strike.
The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, on Tuesday last week shut down the country’s economy over Federal Government’s inability to adopt its proposed new national minimum wage.
The organised labour, however, announced the relaxation of the strike on Wednesday with a vow to resume the strike if the FG fails to reach agreement with them after five days.
Reacting, Azomchine, who featured on Arise TV on Tuesday, said labour should have continued the strike action until its demands are met, citing the economic hardship ravaging the nation.
He said: “Christians, Muslims, whatever tribe you are, I’m sure that your children are telling you that they need more food.
“We have two years. We will continue to pray for the president to navigate us till the end because whatever we do now, President Tinubu will be there till 2027. But by 2027, he should hand over to that right person.
“For now, our principal is the right person unless he changes his mind. We don’t need insults, we don’t even need the labour to play their gimmick. I believe that the labour unions are not even serious.
“Why did you call off strike when you have not even achieved your aim? I personally suspect that this labour unions are just there as part of the group. You should have continued the strike until you achieved your aim. “
