Report: The next three signings Newcastle United want to make after sealing Lloyd Kelly deal

Newcastle United are hoping to enjoy a fast start to the summer transfer window.

While there has been a slight setback with Tosin Adarabioyo choosing to sign for Chelsea instead of Newcastle United, it looks like the Magpies are on course to enjoy a bright start to the window.

Lloyd Kelly appears to be braced to become the first signing of the summer, having agreed personal terms to join Newcastle United on a free transfer. That is great news for Eddie Howe, who has worked with Kelly before and knows what he is all about.

With the Kelly deal almost over the line, Newcastle are also focussing on signing a goalkeeper. They want a number two to provide cover for Nick Pope, and that honour looks set to go to James Trafford.

The Magpies have already agreed personal terms with the Burnley goalkeeper, with Toon officials now looking to agree a fee for the 21-year-old with the Clarets.

What Newcastle United will target after Lloyd Kelly arrives

With two deals seemingly on the horizon, Newcastle have three more positions they would like to fill.

That is according to the Telegraph, who report that the Magpies also want to sign a right winger, a right-sided centre-back and a striker.

That will be next on Newcastle’s agenda, with the Telegraph adding that a deal for Trafford is unlikely to go through until July. The reason why is because of the club’s PSR position, with Newcastle seemingly under pressure to sell someone before June 30th.

What Newcastle are willing to admit about their transfer targets

In terms of incomings, the Telegraph add that Newcastle United have a small pool of players that they are targeting this summer, many of which will be expensive and difficult to sign.

That could make things difficult for the Magpies, as they look to enhance their squad ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Newcastle want reinforcements, and are eyeing players who can take them to the next level. But they will come at a price, especially in attack.

Eddie Howe has already warned that a new striker will cost a lot of money, and the same can be said about signing a new right winger.

The likes of Jarrod Bowen, Michael Olise and Nico Williams have all been linked, each of which would be more than welcome at St James’ Park. Any of them would be outstanding signings, but they are all going to cost a huge amount of money.

Given the calibre of player that Newcastle want, they are going to have to spend a lot of money. It is as simple as that.

That might mean they are unable to make as many signings as they hope this summer, although that may depend on who leaves.

But with a centre-back on his way and a goalkeeper possibly to follow, Newcastle’s next priority has to be a winger. That is where most of the budget should go, then the club can turn towards another centre-back and a striker.
