Report: Nottingham Forest considering move for 'outstanding' PL player after positive PSR update

Nottingham Forest are now said to be considering an audacious Premier League signing after a positive financial update has emerged.

Regardless of their PSR concerns, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were said to have real ambition to improve their squad this summer.

Five loan players have left the club, and three have departed after the expiry of their contract.

Nuno needs numbers and quality, but similarly won’t want any plans to be funded by the sale of either Murillo or Morgan Gibbs-White.

The duo has emerged as the club’s two most prized assets, players who would start at most top six clubs.

That being said, a report from The Telegraph on Tuesday has suddenly made Forest’s summer plans appear a lot more palatable.

Before June 30, Forest will have to raise £20m in transfer sales, a much lower figure than previously stated.

That gives the club confidence that they can keep the stars mentioned, whilst raising those funds by selling the likes of Joe Worrall and Matt Turner.

Nottingham Forest may reignite bid to sign Crystal Palace keeper Sam Johnstone

Of course this positive PSR update also affords Forest some freedom in terms of who they bring in, given they may no longer be chasing replacements for the stars they sell.

And to that end, the same report has stated that Forest are now considering a renewed bid for Crystal Palace keeper Sam Johnstone.

Nuno is reportedly happy with Matz Sels but wants further depth in his goalkeeping department, with Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos up for sale.

Having lost his place to Dean Henderson in south London, Forest made an approach to Palace in January for Johnstone but were ultimately unsuccessful.

But a renewed bid would seem very well-advised, given Palace surely can’t keep two keepers of that quality at the same mid-table club.

Of course, recruiting Johnstone would then create a fight with Sels for the number one spot.

But given Johnstone has recently been in the England reckoning, fans may be confident that the ‘outstanding‘ talent would swiftly win a start.

It’s a positive update for all associated with Nottingham Forest, and not only Nuno, who will be determined to avoid another relegation race next season.
