China has not confirmed its participation in the Peace Summit on Ukraine that will be held in Switzerland on June 15-16, according to the press secretary of the President of Ukraine Serhii Nykyforov.

"As of now, there is no confirmation from China that it will participate in the summit. And the hopes that they will participate in the summit are illusory,” Nykyforov said.

What preceded it

On May 31, Reuters reported, citing its sources, that China had rejected Ukraine's invitation to participate in the Peace Summit.

This was later confirmed by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning. She said that Beijing had demanded Russia's participation in the event, but Moscow was not invited.

For this position, China has already been criticized by NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg. According to him, Beijing is the main supporter of the war against Ukraine.
