A Tottenham Hotspur ‘wonderkid’ quietly impressed on loan last season and could be ready for the first-team.

The North Londoners have always given youth a platform to shine and have enjoyed some excellent academy graduates over the years, most notably Harry Kane.

Ange Postecoglou’s vision aligns with the club’s morals as he’s more than willing to give youth a chance, as evinced with Mikey Moore, who made his senior debut aged 16 last term.

Now, having enjoyed a productive loan spell, it seems they have another academy star ready to make the grade.

Ashley Phillips could be ready for Tottenham Hotspur first-team

Tottenham signed Ashley Phillips from Blackburn Rovers last summer after activating his £2m release clause.

Phillips, who has been labelled a ‘wonderkid’, spent the second half of last season on loan at Championship outfit Plymouth Argyle, where he flourished.

He started virtually every game for The Pilgrims and was pivotal in their fight to stay up, finishing a point above the drop zone.

Such experience would’ve taught him a great deal and he’ll undoubtedly come back a more mature player and person.

Ashley Phillips would provide great cover

Perhaps, Tottenham could send Phillips out on another loan to further his development but he’ll likely get plenty of opportunities at the North London club due to their European commitments.

Spurs finished fifth last term, thus qualifying for the Europa League and will need a bulkier squad to fight on four fronts.

So keeping the 2005-born centre-back should be a serious consideration, particularly given the number of injuries Postecoglou had to contend with last term.
