'Really creative': Anthony Gordon drops hint about Newcastle United's unreleased Adidas away kits

Anthony Gordon loves the Newcastle United home kit, but he’s an even bigger fan of the unseen away jerseys.

The Magpies launched their new Adidas kit last week, much to the delight of Toon fans who have been buzzing about the return of the German manufacturer.

Adidas are synonymous with Newcastle United, so it is great to have them back on Tyneside. It is also brilliant from a financial perspective, with the Magpies set to make £30million-a-year thanks to their new partnership. On top of that, they will be selling plenty more shirts at the club shop!

The home kit has gone down brilliantly so far, with fans queuing up for hours to get their hands on it on release day at the club’s new temporary shop over the road to St James’ Park.

It sums up how eager the fans are to wear a new black and white Adidas kit, and Anthony Gordon is just as excited about the away shirts that are due to be released.

Anthony Gordon drops hint ahead of Newcastle’s new Adidas away kits

In a video on Newcastle United’s official X account, Gordon spoke about the Magpies’ new home shirt.

Whilst expressing how happy he is with it, he also gave a hint towards what Adidas have got planned for the away and third kits.

“I love it [the new home kit],” he said.

“I think it’s very retro. I think the fans are going to love it. It’s got that classic vibe, throwing it back to the older days.

“I love the colours, especially of the second and away kit. Obviously I knew the home one would be black and white, but they’ve been really creative with the away kit and third one. I love what they’ve done with it.”

Adidas set to roll back the years with Newcastle away kits

When it comes to the Newcastle home kit, you know what you are going to get. If it is not black and white, something has gone majorly wrong.

But the away shirts allow the manufacturer to be a bit more creative, and that is exactly what Gordon thinks Adidas have done.

He is delighted about what Adidas are set to release, and so he should be if the rumours are true.

It has been reported that the away kit will be burgundy and navy hoops, just like the famous Kevin Keegan era kit from 1995. The Entertainers ensured that kit became iconic, and now Eddie Howe’s Magpies have the chance to write their own history in the historic hoops.

As for the third kit, it will also reportedly pay tribute to the past. It is set to be white, with the sponsors in green and the three stripes on the sleeves in black – just like the one they wore during the 1999/2000 season. On top of that, it could also use a retro Newcastle United badge, rather than the current incarnation.

That should give the Newcastle third kit a unique feel, having also used an old emblem on the back of the new home shirt.

While they are just bits of material, Adidas have created such a buzz since their return to Newcastle United, and that will continue when the away and third kits are released.
