Michigan football hires Ohio State staffer Erin Dunston

Erin Dunston has left Ohio State for a position with Michigan Wolverines football.

Michigan Wolverines footballhead coach Sherrone Moorehas added to his staff, bringing in Ohio State assistant athletic director for football recruiting and events Erin Dunston as U-M’s new director of operations, according to Lettermen Row’s Spencer Holbrook.

The former Buckeye replaces Christina DeRuyter, who was Michigan’s director of operations before leaving for the Los Angeles Chargers as director of football logistics.

Dunston spent three seasons with the Buckeyes (2021-23) as director of on-campus recruiting, before recently being promoted to her current role. She previously worked at Kansas and Purdue.

Dunston is the second Ohio State staff member that Moore has plucked this offseason, joining running backs coach Tony Alford, who worked in Columbus for nine seasons.

According to her Ohio State bio, Dunston was “responsible for managing the budget associated with on-campus recruiting and coordinating all recruiting efforts with a primary focus on official visits, unofficial visits, game day recruiting programming, junior days and special events. Dunston also works in conjunction with the creative staff to support social media channels.”

Dunston’s sister, Jillian Dunston, played basketball at Michigan from 2015-18 and is currently an assistant coach for the program under head coach Kim Barnes Arico.

In 2022, Dunston was named by On3 as a rising star personnel and recruiting staffer “you need to know.”

At Kansas, per her bio, Dunston “managed the head coach’s recruiting efforts including organizing recruiting call schedules, and overseeing his communication calendar. During the 2020-2021 season with the Jayhawks, Dunston assumed football operations responsibilities where she was responsible for maintaining the roster/scholarship numbers, assisting with team travel, practice operations, liaison to the Dept. of Athletics, prompt payment of vendors and ensuring the program adheres to the rules and regulations of the NCAA.

“Prior to her arrival in Lawrence Dunston spent a year at Purdue University, where she served as the Athletics Administration Associate. In her role at Purdue, Dunston collaborated with internal and external personnel to achieve organizational objectives, implement project management processes, renovate the substance and abuse drug policy and assist with community relations and engagement.

The Michigan staffer was a graduate student assistant with the football operations staff for two years at LSU before her time at Purdue.
