Kyle Rittenhouse, who was acquitted of homicide charges after shooting three men during a 2020 protest, killing two of them, has been selected to head outreach efforts at the Second Amendment advocacy group Texas Gun Rights, according to a report.

Rittenhouse posted on X he was "excited" to join the team in response to a release announcing the news from the gun group.

In announcing the news, the gun rights organization said Rittenhouse became a "prominent figure in the national conversation about gun rights and self defense following a high-profile legal battle in 2021."

Jurors acquitted Rittenhouse of homicide and reckless endangerment charges in November 2021 in the shooting deaths of Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber. Gaige Grosskreutz, a third person, was wounded and survived.

Rittenhouse, who was a 17-year-old Illinois resident at the time, said he acted in self-defense the night of the shootings.

Social media users were quick to criticize the announcement.
