Observations from Ohio State’s June 11 camp: Brady Palmer impresses and 2028 prospects shine

2026 QB Brady Palmer (Mick Walker/Lettermen Row)

COLUMBUS — Ohio State hosted its third recruiting camp of the summer and there were several talented prospects in attendance.

The Buckeyes worked several talented quarterbacks and a handful of pass catchers, a few of which left town with an Ohio State offers.

Lettermen Row dives into some camp observations about the offensive prospects immediately following the day.

2026 QUARTERBACK OBSERVATIONS

Tuesday was the first day of the 2026 quarterback sweepstakes at Ohio State as four-star Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage quarterback Dia Bell and San Diego (Calif.) St. Augustine 2026 quarterback Brady Palmer threw for the coaching staff. Lettermen Row‘s Matt Parker wrote about Bell earlier today.

As for Palmer, he turned it a solid performance. The 6-foot-3 and 190-pound prospect had several impressive throws where he flashed high-end arm talented but he also struggled at time.

The positives were that he threw the ball with great touch and accuracy, particularly on short to intermediate throws. Palmer also had good ball placement on several throws in the competitive periods of the camp and as a result, was able to throw receivers open in 1-on-1s.

The negatives Palmer struggled to drive the ball at times. He told Lettermen Row after the camp that the Ohio State coaching staff wants him to focus on driving off his back foot more and that would explain why he left a few throws short. He has clean mechanics and compact throwing motion but is improving his footwork, which is understandable for a prospect heading into his junior season.

Overall, Palmer threw the ball well on Tuesday and showed why Ohio State offered him this spring.

ADDITIONAL OBSERVATIONS FROM AROUND CAMP

– 2028 Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy wide receiver Eric McFarland was perhaps the most impressive prospect at camp on Tuesday. McFarland, a Las Vegas native, has yet to play a down of high school football but Ohio State has already offered him and he showed why at camp. He excelled in drill work, caught every ball throw his way and did not lose a 1-on-1 rep. McFarland was also the prospect that Hartline to lead drills throughout the day which is notable with him being a 2028 prospect. With what he should on Tuesday, McFarland has the potential to be a five-star type prospect.

– Another 2028 prospect that impressed on Tuesday was quarterback Niemann Lawrence who came with a few coaches and players from the South Florida Express organization. He threw alongside Palmer, Bell and Ohio State commit Tavien St. Clair but did not look out of place. Lawrence already has a lot of arm talent and a natural motion. He became the first 2028 quarterback to earn an offer from Ohio State with his camp performance.

– Ohio State also offered 2027 Cleveland (Ohio) Villa Angela-St. Joseph’s tight end D’Angelo White after camp. At 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, White is a first off the bus type prospect and he played like it on Tuesday. He is still improving as a route runner but caught the ball well the throughout the day. White was also very coachable. Tight ends coach Keenan Bailey and current tight end Gee Scott Jr. were coaching White hard throughout the camp and he was always willing to learn.

– Four-star Red (Texas) Oak wide receiver Brayden Robinson also impressed on Tuesday. He is not the biggest prospect at 5-foot-8 and 155 pounds but he has blazing speed. Robinson made the trip to Columbus to learn from Brian Hartline and his route running steadily improved throughout the day. Overall, the way Robinson improved throughout the day was impressive enough that it resulted in an offer from Ohio State.

– Flipping over to the defensive side of the ball, 2027 Federal Way (Wa.) Eastside Catholic linebacker Liufau Loumoli was impressive in coverage. He covered both tight ends and running backs at a high-level. Loumoli also had a habit of stealing reps in a good way as it seemed like he was always on the field. Linebackers coach James Laurinaitis was impressed enough to offer Loumoli after camp.
