Mike Norvell: ‘It’s a great time to be a Florida State Seminole’

The Florida State Seminoles are looking to continue their rise up the college football ranks under the leadership of head coach Mike Norvell. Norvell has helped the Seminoles become a prominent name once again and has them in the hunt for the national championship in 2024.

During the Seminoles 2024 Booster Tour, their head coach touched on a number of topics, including the buzz around his program. To put it simply, in the eyes of Norvell, ‘it’s a great time to be a Florida State Seminole.’

“I think it’s a great time to be a Florida State Seminole,” said Norvell. “And I think our fan base sees the growth; they see the commitment, the alignment, the necessary push that we all have to embrace to continue to get this program to where we want it to be. So, there’s definitely a sense of excitement about all of it; it’s a lot of energy around our program.”

Unlike when Norvell first took over the reins at Florida State, there is ample buzz and excitement surrounding the program as it has improved season after season under his leadership. And with them just missing out on an opportunity to play for a national championship last year, along with the acquisitions to their already impressive roster, there is, even more, to be amped up about when it comes to the promise of Florida State’s future.

Florida State finished the 2023 campaign with an undefeated 13-0 record heading into selection Sunday. Unfortunately, the undisputed kings of the ACC were left out of last year’s College Football Playoff battle by the selection committee despite their unblemished record. Norvell and company are looking to move past that injustice and 2024 and make sure there is no doubt in the minds of the committee of whether or not they belong in this year’s College Football Playoff field. And that will start on the second to last weekend in August as the Seminoles will travel to Ireland to face off against Georgia Tech.

Norvell on what Week 0 matchup in Dublin means

For the Florida State headman, their trip to Dublin, Ireland, is both business and educational. During a recent interview with ESPN college football expert Greg McElroy, Norvell discussed the importance of the trip.

“Well, it’s definitely the stage that this program is built for,” Norvell said. “And to be the first game in college football (this season), we’re honored to be able to be a part of [it]; to be able to have a unique experience going play in Ireland. It’s definitely great.”

“It’s gonna be the first time for most of our guys ever leaving the country. I’m glad that the schedule worked out so that we don’t play till the following Monday: the Monday of Labor Day. So we’re actually going to stay an extra day so guys can get an educational experience there and get a sense of the culture and the people. So it really works out in both regards… our guys understand the expectation they understand the sense of urgency… we’re excited about the opportunity, but we’re gonna do everything in our power to go and start the season as good as we possibly can.”

Florida State and Georgia Tech will go head to head on August 24 at Avila Stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:00 PM EST and will air on ESPN. For those who cannot be in front of a TV, you can also catch all the action live by streaming via the ESPN app.
