A26 Tonbridge Road and Red Hill at Wateringbury crossroads closed for further SGN works

A village at the centre of ongoing road closures due to emergency gas repairs has been told the work has been extended.

The emergency repairs on A26 Tonbridge Road, in Wateringbury will now be ongoing until June 19.

It comes after gas company SGN confirmed it had completed its repairs on the road, but said it needed to carry out further work to abandon some old gas mains.

Earlier in the month, tthe closure caused chaos after the leak clashed with planned water works.

The crossroads in Wateringbury have now been undergoing work since May 29, marking two weeks of chaos for road users.

According to roadworks site one.network, Bow Road will continue to have two-way traffic lights until June 19, while Tonbridge Road and Red Hill will remain closed until this date.

A spokesperson for SGN said: “We’ve completed our repairs in Tonbridge Road.

“However, we now need to carry out work to abandon some old gas mains.

“In order to do this, we’ve extended our permit until Wednesday 19 June.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause to the local community.”
