A pro-Donald Trump Republican who just lost a Nevada primary race claims the former president endorsed his rival because the man cut a check for the endorsement.

Jeff Gunter, who served in Trump’s administration as ambassador to Iceland, posted to social media that a big political check had been sent from “the swamp” after Trump endorsed rival Sam Brown over the weekend.

Gunter made the claim without evidence and has yet to show any proof, despite his campaign telling The New York Times, “Yes he can, stay tuned” after the outlet asked for confirmation.

In the end, Gunter lost to Brown Tuesday night.

And The Times pointed out in its reporting that Brown was leading in the polls ahead of Tuesday’s primary and that Trump “often jumped into races at the last minute to endorse the front-runner.
