‘It was amazing’: Liam Scales couldn’t believe what the ‘unbelievable’ Celtic fans did vs Rangers at Hampden

This season’s league and Scottish Cup double win was certainly one to remember for the Celtic supporters. And not all for good reasons.

There were many memorable moments for the players to look back on this successful season. The 1-0 win at Ibrox, the 2-1 away win at Hibs in January or even the 3-3 draw at Rangers. They were all very special in their own right.

However, it was in the Scottish Cup that Liam Scales had his most memorable moment and, in particular, what the Celtic fans did to make it that little bit more special.

Scales lauds Celtic fans’ ‘amazing’ celebrations

Adam Idah’s last-minute goal was quite a fitting end to the season for the Republic of Ireland international.

A relatively unknown quantity, Idah left Glasgow a hero after putting Rangers to the sword to deliver the Scottish Cup.

And it was what the Celtic fans did full-time inside Hampden that completely blew Liam Scales away.

Scales said [Irish Independent], “The final was unbelievable, the atmosphere at the stadium with the 50/50 split, I’ve not played in games like that before.

“Once the game started you lose focus on [things] outside the pitch and to win it the way we did as well.

“It wasn’t the most entertaining game, but to win in the last minute was brilliant, the celebrations in the stadium, it was amazing.”

Indeed they were. The footage of all the Celtic players standing with their arms interlocked in the middle of the Hampden pitch watching the supporters’ rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

And the jubilation after Idah slotted the ball past Jack Butland was also incredible. But these scenes are nothing new.

We witnessed incredible emotion on Trophy Day as the Celtic fans gave Joe Hart a superb send-off. It’s what they do.

It’s the reason why the Celtic fans are known worldwide for the colour and atmosphere they bring to football. It really is a joy to watch.
