The USC Trojans are going to get major contributions from a number of transfer portal additions throughout the 2024 season. One of them was named to On3’s 2024 Preseason All-Transfer Portal Team this week as safety Kamari Ramsey earned one of the two safety spots.

The 6-foot, 204-pound defensive back from Palmdale transferred from UCLA to USC this offseason and is set to take over as a starting safety in a new-look Trojans’ secondary under coordinator D’Anton Lynn and defensive backs coach Doug Belk. Last season, Ramsey had 40 tackles, including 2.5 for loss, five pass deflections and an interception.

Lynn moving from UCLA to USC played a significant part in Ramsey’s decision to transfer across town.

“After playing with him for one year, I loved his defense, NFL-style defense,” Ramsey said this past March. “I’ve always watched the Ravens play and that’s where a lot of his scheme came from. That played a major factor.”

“It’s very aggressive and for my play style as a versatile safety, he puts me in many different positions to make plays, and he’s always playing to my strengths,” Ramsey said. “As far as his scheme, he’s always going to put you in the best position to make plays.”

USC Opponents on the All-Transfer Portal Team

The Trojans will face off against a few players on On3’s All-Transfer Portal Team.

Linebacker Jaishawn Barham moved from Maryland to Michigan this offseason. The Trojans would have lined up against him regardless as USC plays both teams this season. On3’s Jesse Simonton said of Barham: “Barham was among the best linebackers in the Big Ten as a freshman in 2022, showcasing as both a plus run-defender and cover-‘backer for the Terps. He suffered a mini-sophomore slump last season while battling various injuries, but now healthy, Barham fit right in with Michigan’s defense during the spring.”

Cornerback A.J. Harris will come to the Coliseum as part of Penn State’s defense after transferring from Georgia.

“Harris couldn’t crack the lineup at Georgia, but the former fringe 5-star prospect looks to be a plug-and-play starter for the Nittany Lions in 2024,” Simonton wrote. “Versatile enough to play corner or nickel, Harris drew rave reviews from Penn State coaches this spring.”

On the offensive side, LSU wide receiver C.J. Daniels will look to help fill the void created by Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. departing for the NFL. He comes over from Liberty.

“LSU nabbed the Liberty star to fill one of the vacancies on the perimeter,” Simonton wrote. “Daniels averaged a whopping 19.4 yards per catch in 2023 (third-most nationally among any WRs with at least 50 receptions) with 10 touchdowns.”

And among the specialists, Notre Dame kicker Mitch Jeter made the team.

“The former South Carolina kicker was 12 of 14 on field goals last season with 33 of 34 made PATs,” Simonton wrote. “He also served as the Gamecocks’ place-kicker, with 65.1% of his kickoffs going for touchbacks — fifth-best in the SEC.”
