'Love playing like that': Liverpool player suggests he's been unleashed during international duty

Liverpool players have been gallivanting around the world representing their countries this week.

For some, the work is only just beginning. Liverpool have 14 players featuring in the Copa America and European Championship.

It will be interesting to see how they all get on, with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Darwin Nunez warming up for the tournaments in excellent fashion.

Other members of the Liverpool squad have struggled a little. Ibrahima Konate was blasted for a poor performance in the French team while Dominik Szoboszlai earned some rare criticism from his Hungary manager. Hopefully they can improve.

For some of their Liverpool teammates though, the season is now over completely. One of those is Conor Bradley, who has been looking back on a terrific international fortnight.

Conor Bradley explains Northern Ireland role

It’s fair to say that Bradley impressed the Northern Irish media with his performance during Tuesday’s win over Andorra

The Liverpool academy graduate scored both goals as Michael O’Neil’s team signed off for the season in style.

For Bradley, it signified the cherry on top of a wonderful breakout campaign where he truly announced himself to the football world. The 20-year-old now looks set to play a big part under Arne Slot.

Ushered into Liverpool’s team at right-back, Bradley could even take over permanently from Alexander-Arnold, who may move into midfield.

According to Bradley himself though, that may not necessarily be his best position. Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph after the win over Andorra, the youngster admitted that he’s loving playing in a ‘free’ type role for O’Neil.

“Michael doesn’t tell me to go wherever I want but to play with freedom and whatever you feel in the game and do what you feel,” says Bradley. “I love playing like that, picking up little positions inside and positions out wide however the game is going and it is working at the moment.”

Bradley also admitted that he’d got a taste for goals after bagging an impressive double.

“Michael said he was going to try and keep me on but added he couldn’t let me go back to Liverpool injured so that’s why he took me off,” he says. “I’m happy with the two. Maybe there will be a hat-trick in the future.”

Arne Slot given good Conor Bradley problem

The last season gone was perfect for Bradley on the pitch in many ways. With Alexander-Arnold injured for a chunk of the campaign, he was able to cement the right-back position.

However, once Trent is back ahead of the new campaign, Slot really does have a decision to make.

Bradley is still young and probably is not expecting to start every game. But Liverpool have to harness his potential.

He’s clearly in a really good moment and to curtail his game time could stall or reverse that.

As a result, we’d love to see Alexander-Arnold move to midfield and Bradley given something similar to Trent’s hybrid midfield/right-back role.

The Northern Irishman is clearly a goal threat and Liverpool have to use that in any way they can. Really exciting times ahead for one of the Reds’ most entertaining young players in years.
