Karina Mustafa, 29 (VSO)

A 29-year-old mother in Florida was arrested for allegedly attempting to drown her own toddler in a bathtub, saying the child was possessed by the Devil.

The harrowing event, which occurred on June 7th, has left authorities and the public grappling with the gravity of the situation and the underlying factors that may have led to such a tragic event.

According to the police reports, the incident began when Karina Mustafa's young child, who was playing outside, accidentally knocked over a potted plant, resulting in the child becoming covered in dirt and muddy water.

This seemingly innocuous incident sparked an intense argument between Mustafa and the child's father, leading to a series of events that would ultimately culminate in a near tragedy.

Enraged by the incident with the potted plant, Mustafa took the child into the bathroom, locked the door, and refused to allow the father to enter. It was during this time that the unthinkable occurred – Mustafa allegedly submerged the toddler's face in the bathtub, holding the child's head underwater for what she later admitted was "no more than one minute."

As Mustafa opened the bathroom door, the child's father was horrified to find the toddler unconscious in the partially filled bathtub.

Without hesitation, he immediately began performing life-saving measures, ultimately reviving the child. The quick-thinking and swift action of the father undoubtedly played a crucial role in saving the child's life.

Following the incident, the toddler was rushed to a local hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition. Karina Mustafa, on the other hand, was promptly arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse, a serious offense that reflects the gravity of her alleged actions.

According to FOX 35, Mustafa provided a chilling explanation for her actions during the subsequent investigation. She claimed that the child was "out of control," had "the diablo (Devil)," and was "possessed by the devil," directly impacting her relationship with the child's father.

Mustafa further revealed that she had slapped the child for damaging her nails, and it was this act of violence that preceded the attempted drowning.
