Kentucky baseball coach Nick Mingione has been named the Perfect Game National Coach of the Year, it was announced Wednesday. It marks the second time that he has won the award after also claiming it in 2017.

Few coaches in college baseball have put together a season quite like Mingione has at Kentucky in 2024. The Wildcats are currently one win away from setting a school record and have advanced to the College World Series for the first time in program history.

Kentucky also set a record for the most SEC wins in school history with 22 this season. It finished as co-champions of the conference in the regular season for only the second time ever.

Mingione has been the head coach for the Wildcats since 2017 and was also an assistant at UK from 2006-07. He has never had a losing season to compile a 263-164 overall record in that span. Kentucky also made Super Regional appearances in 2017 and 2023 under his direction.

Kentucky made it through Regional and Super Regional play without a single loss on its way to Omaha. The Wildcats defeated Oregon State in Super Regionals with a 10-0 victory in Game 1 before toughing out a 3-2 win in the decisive Game 2.

UK led the SEC in batting average in conference-only games as well as ranking third in fielding percentage and fifth in ERA. Ryan Nicholson leads the Wildcats with 21 home runs this season.

Now with the Coach of the Year award under his belt, Mingione will focus on trying to lead Kentucky to its first national title in program history. The Wildcats begin play in Omaha with a matchup against NC State at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday.
