Penn State hosted St. Louis wide receiver Corey Simms to Happy Valley to open June to kick off a stretch of four official visits slated this summer. Wednesday afternoon, he amended course.
Announcing his decision via social media, the On3’s Industry Rankings four-star prospect has narrowed his choices to Penn State, Southern Cal, and Missouri.
Simms picked up his Nittany Lions offer in October, then visiting campus for the first time on a junior day in January. He will make his decision on June 30.Expected to be among the finalists in the race for Simms’ services, Nebraska dropped off the circle of contenders.
Listed at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, Simms is the No. 289-ranked overall prospect in the Class of 2025. He is considered the 44th-best receiver and the No. 3-ranked prospect in Missouri for the Class of 2025.
Penn State impressions for Simms
Coming out of his visit to Penn State two weekends ago, Simms offered his insight into the impact made by the Nittany Lions’ staff. Having created a positive impression on his family, who was also in town for the visit, Simms walked away from the experience delivering strong praise to the program.
“I enjoyed my visit to Penn State,” Simms told BWI. “I enjoyed having my family come out to meet the coaches and get a feel for the school and environment. The official visit was all we expected, plus more. My family and I had a chance to connect with and hear from the current players and the coaching staff. We got questions answered and were able to interact with staff from multiple departments.
“After this visit, Penn State remains one of my top schools. Everyone from the head coach to the hostesses were welcoming and made Penn State feel like home. Penn State remains high on my list. Penn State left a great impression on my parents, which definitely improved their stock.”
Others contend for Simms’ services
Coming out of a visit to Southern Cal this past weekend, Simms was similarly complimentary toward the Trojans. Catching up with head coach Lincoln Riley and the USC coaching staff last weekend, Simms insisted on a similar place for the Trojans in his pecking order.
“I am pumped up about USC!” Simms told On3’s Steve Wiltfong. “The climate and culture is perfect! My family and I are excited about everything USC has to offer. I’m excited about the academic and long-term opportunities and the athletic program. Life after football is real, and I appreciate how USC works to prepare their student athletes for it all!
“I was excited to talk with Coach Riley and Coach Simmons this weekend. I had an opportunity to connect with other prospects and current members of the USC football team. My parents and I had a chance to get all questions answered while getting a feel for the campus and the overall expectations of what it takes to be a Trojan. I enjoyed every minute of my visit. I can see myself being a Trojan, so they’re up there very high.”
