Reports: Bayern close to signing Stuttgart's Japan defender Ito

Bayern Munich are on the verge of signing VfB Stuttgart defender Hiroki Ito, Germany's Bild newspaper and Sky TV reported on Wednesday.

The Japan international can leave for a fixed transfer fee of €30 million ($32 million).

Ito and Bayern have already reached a verbal agreement, the reports said, adding that the possible transfer was independent of Bayern's bid to sign Germany defender Jonathan Tah from champions Bayer Leverkusen.

Ito was one of Stuttgart's key players this season and played a major part in the team's second-place finish in the Bundesliga and qualification for the Champions League.

Reports say English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur have signalled an interest in Ito, but are not in the Champions League next term.

There is also media speculation that Bayern are working on a renewed bid to sign Portuguese midfielder João Palhinha from Fulham.
