Climber found dead after falling off Germany's highest mountain

A climber has died after falling off the Zugspitze, the highest peak in Germany, police reported on Wednesday.

According to the police, three mountaineers found the body on Wednesday afternoon. An emergency doctor confirmed the death of the 34-year-old.

The police suspect that the man was climbing alone and fell from a great height on Tuesday.

The climber then slid about 100 metres down a snowy mountain and suffered injuries that led to his death, police believe.

The exact circumstances of the accident are still under investigation.

The police and mountain rescue service warned that mountain tours in the area are currently risky due to a large amount of snow and wintry conditions at higher altitudes.
