A foreign policy analyst slammed the Republican Party on Wednesday night, which is set to welcome former President — and now, convicted felon — Donald Trump back to the Capitol in Washington, D.C. for the first time since the Jan. 6 insurrection three years ago.

Trump reportedly plans to gather with House Republicans on Thursday, and the D.C. reuniting comes as the former president schemes with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) to map out the party's policy agenda should he defeat Preisdent Joe Biden and reclaim the White House.

The reported meeting didn't go over well with foreign policy analyst David Rothkopf, who wrote on X that on Thursday, Trump "returns to the scene of the crime for his first visit to the Capitol since the insurrection he incited."

"And he'll be greeted by GOPers who will celebrate their felon-traitor leader & in so doing embrace his crime against the institution in which they serve," he said.

In a follow-up tweet, Rothkopf said few events in Congress's history have been "more shocking and scandalous "than what is planned Thursday — "an institution that has seen its share of rogues will see an entire party debase itself and their offices as never before in history."

Social media users appeared to agree with the scathing take, with @JohnJNJ1·responding: "What a disgrace. He shouldn’t even be allowed to step foot anywhere near DC."

"Trump sat negligently in the White House for hours while his people pummeled the Capitol," wrote @Balcony440. "Now they’re rolling out a congressional red carpet for this ghoul."

"Just sick," wrote @laurakarson.

"It's unfathomable," responded @A100Alicia.
