Katy Perry 'left on the wrong foot' says finalist - 'Not what I was expecting'

American Idol finalist Jack Blocker shares some of his surprises since leaving the show this June. The singer, unfortunately, didn’t take the season 22 crown this year. He was pipped to the post by runner-up Will Moseley and winner Abi Carter. However, he’s finding his groove outside of American Idol and reflects on his experience with one of the show’s former judges.

Jack Blocker spent weeks singing his heart out in a bid to win American Idol this Spring. He performed all kinds of hits including Rainbow, Feeling Whitney, Blinding Lights, and many more songs. The singer rounded off his time on the show by performing alongside Katy Perry. The two sang What Makes a Woman before he placed third on the ABC show.

Jack Blocker and Katy Perry

Speaking exclusively to Us Weekly, American Idol finalist Jack lifted the lid on his relationship with judge Katy Perry this summer.

The Dallas-born singer says how he “didn’t feel” the two left the show “on the right foot” at the end of season 22.

However, Jack adds how he appreciated Katy’s “confidence” in his journey.

He adds: “We’re close now. She’s a good friend and it’s definitely not what I was expecting when I left the room for the first time.”

Katy is no longer a judge on American Idol, leaving the show in season 22 after being part of the panel for seven years.

Jack reflects on American Idol

While Jack explained how American Idol felt “go, go, go…” he seems to be finding his groove since the competition.

He said: “It’s exhausting and coming off of it feels like you want to break.”

However, speaking of CMA Fest in Nashville, he raved: “Doing something like this, it’s like, ‘[I] gotta do it. Let’s keep going, man. This is awesome.”

The singer is throwing himself into music full-time these days.

Speaking of hearing his songs being sung back to him, he said: “…Getting to watch people sing them back and really connect with the words and have them apply to their own life, that’s why you do it. It’s … just reinvigorating to make me want to keep going.”
