Southwell’s new skatepark graffitied just a month after opening

A new skatepark which the community helped to fund has been vandalised.

Southwell’s new skatepark has suffered graffiti, just a month after it was opened.

In a post on Facebook Southwell Town Council — who developed the site together with Friends of Southwell Parks, Betongpark and Skate Nottingham — stated it was “very disappointing” and has encouraged anyone who sees damage being done to the park to report it to the police on 101.

It also asked that residents urge young people to protect the park.

The specially designed park, which replaced an existing run down facility on the Park Lane site, cost over £100,000 to create and had over £15,000 of community support via a Crowdfunder as final push for the project.

On the post the council added: “Not only does the paint potentially damage the integrity of the surface but the chemicals we would have to use to remove are dangerous not only to the staff but also the environment and to the surface.”
