Ricky Stenhouse Jr. takes shot at Kyle Busch in new interview on unrelated question

Apparently, things between Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Kyle Busch have no improved. Then again, why would they after what happened? The two NASCAR drivers likely won’t be sending Christmas cards to each other this year.

Even though the fight at North Wilkesboro was a month ago, there is still no love lost between Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Kyle Busch. At least from Stenouse’s perspective. Busch has avoided talking about the incident much since it happened.

Speaking with Jeff Gluck of The Athletic, Stenhouse even took a somewhat subliminal shot at Busch.

When asked who he would not like to be stuck in an elevator with, Stenhouse made reference toward a driver he would like to be in an elevator with.

“Least like to or like to? I know of one I would like to; I think everybody can figure that out,” the JTG Daugherty driver said. “I have been stuck on an elevator with (Kyle) Larson.”

Eventually, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. gave his answer.

“Like 45 minutes [in the elevator with Larson]. There was a group of people; it wasn’t just us. We were stuck between floors and they opened the door and we crawled out. We were the first two out.

“I’ll just go with (Carson) Hocevar, mainly because if I needed to lay down, he would take up too much room. He’s just too tall.”

With how the season has gone for the 47 team, letting out a little frustration on Busch at North Wilkesboro was probably cathartic. However, it hasn’t really led to results much better than they were getting before.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. needs to improve

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. had a solid season in 2023. Even if you take away that Daytona 500 win, he was competitive in the points standings and would have had a chance to make the playoffs on points alone.

At this point last season, Stenhouse had a win, five top-10s, and a top-5. This season through 16 races, Stenhouse has just two top-10s and a top-5 finish. Those numbers aren’t going to cut it and it shows in the points right now.

Iowa might just be what this team needs to get back on the right track. In 2011 and 2012 when Stenhouse won his two Xfinity Series championships, he won at Iowa three times with a P5 finish in the fourth race.

If there was ever a track that Ricky Stenhouse Jr. wanted to see on the schedule, it has to be Iowa. We will see if the 47 team can put things together and come out with a strong result at a track that was so good for Stenhouse a decade ago.
