Penn State football opened up its doors for the first time since spring football broke for the summer to meet with the media. As is their tradition, head coach James Franklin and his ten assistants spoke with the media for roughly an hour. This year the media session coincided with the annual Lift for Life Charity event put on by Uplifting Athletes.

Franklin June Press Conference
One of Franklin’s reoccurring themes since February has been player-led leadership for his Penn State Nittany Lion in 2024. He addressed the topic last week with Nate Bauer in an exclusive interview and the topic came up again on Thursday.
“A lot of times we do that vote right before the summer starts because we like to go in the summer with some of that leadership but we only make that decision if there’s clear and obvious guys in terms of the vote,” Franklin said. That was not the case this summer so the team has not elected a captain to this point.
It’s also a summer tradition to foucs on the passing game, which struggled last season to find consistent rhythm and effectiveness. Today, the topic focused on presumed top wide receiver, Harrison Wallace.
“[He’s] a year older and a year more mature, a year developed and I think he’s very hungry because I think there’s frustration from last year [that it] got cut short that and he feels the same way. So he’s got a really good place. He said he’s had a great summer so far and a really good spring.”
Penn State opens on the road against West Virginia on August 31.
