Rory McIlroy not wearing wedding ring in US Open first round despite calling off divorce from Erica Stoll

Rory McIlroy is still not wearing his wedding ring at the US Open despite announcing he had reconciled with his wife Erica Stoll after cancelling his divorce papers.

The Northern Irishman filed divorce from his wife of seven years on the eve of the PGA Championship.

The news led to wild speculation online and the proceedings have now been closed just a few weeks after they were first filed.

McIlroy released a statement to the Guardian confirming he and his wife were moving forward together.

“There have been rumours about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate," he said.

"Responding to each rumour is a fool’s game.

“Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realised that our best future was as a family together.

"Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”

Despite reconciling with Erica, McIlroy was snapped without his wedding ring at Pinehurst for the 2024 US Open.

The four-time major champion regularly wore the wedding band during events before filing for divorce last month.

However, he wasn't wearing during any of the practice rounds earlier this week or at his press conference.

And McIlroy still didn't have the ring back on his finger for the start of the US Open on Thursday.

The Northern Irishman is looking to end his 10-year wait for another major and the US Open has been a happy hunting ground in recent years.

He's finished inside the top 10 in each of the last five US Opens having won the major back in 2011.

McIlroy was second behind Wyndham Clark last year after a tense battle on the final day at the Los Angeles Country Club.
