Corey LaJoie would love to see NASCAR designate one part of the track where drivers can go after each other. While speaking to Ryan “Skip” Flores on theStacking Pennies podcast, LaJoie jokingly called on NASCAR to have different tiers for fighting fines following the altercation with Kyle Busch and Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
“I wish that there was like if you push or shove it’s like five grand like levels,” LaJoie said. “You know going into it like if I connect and there’s blood, it’s going to be 50 (grand). If I graze, it’s like 15 (grand).”
Along with the fighting fine tiers, LaJoie asked, “Do we need a designated place to punch people because nobody’s going to punch anybody for $75,000.” He then added, “I ain’t doing it on pit road” because “there’s no face worth punching for 75 grand. That’s a lot of money.”
Stenhouse was fined $75,000 for punching Busch after competing in the All-Star race last month. In a recent interview with Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports, Stenhouse said, “Sitting in the hauler for that whole race, I was really mad. And then I’d calm down and then I’d be mad again. I saw the replay of it a couple of times and looked at some data stuff and I got really fired up. Things happen when you get crashed on accident and it’s just a racing thing. But that was blatantly crashed. So if I do anything different, I would maybe choose a different location.”
Has Corey LaJoie lost his mojo?
LaJoie is coming off a P11 finish at Sonoma. It’s is best finish since placing fourth at the Daytona 500 at the begning of the season. Denny Hamlin recenyly spoke about the 32-year-old driver on his Actions Detrimental podcast.
“Corey is not quite, you know, they’ve lost some mojo somewhere, somehow over this last year, I would say,” Hamlin said. “It’s only been like, kind of the speedways, where they would show up. And then you know, for whatever reason this No. 77 has gone from running like, dead-last last year to you know, they put Carson [Hocevar] in and now he’s running P15 most weeks.
“You know, and then this week, he runs in the top ten. So, certainly, you know, a really good driver there that’s showing when he made it to the Cup Series that he’s certainly very deserving of that seat.”
