Sherrone Moore details how to maintain the level of excellence at Michigan

Michigan Football has certainly been as great as any program in the country over the past three seasons. The question now is how they sustain that amidst all the changes both in Ann Arbor and within college football.

Sherrone Moore gave his answer to that during an interview with Joel Klatt this week on ‘Big Noon Conversations’. He said that the only way to maintain Michigan’s recent standard is to focus on their present and do so by continuing to work as they have in that span with the players that they’ll have on the roster.

“Yeah, we’re going to continue to work. Just work. Work as hard as we can every single day,” said Moore. “Don’t look at the prize, don’t look at the games downfield. Like, look at right now and do whatever we can do today to get better.”

“We know we’ve got great talent here on both sides of the ball. We’ve built it to sustain and not be up and down,” Moore continued.

With that being the plan, Moore is encouraged about their chances of doing that with what the Wolverines have done over the spring. They’ve actually almost had to temper back some of the competition in a way, which can also be viewed as a positive if it’s done the right way.

“Super excited for what the players have done this spring. They’ll tell you that it has been a physical spring,” said Moore. “It has been a fun spring. Guys get after it. It’s like sometimes you’ve got to pull them away. Like, guys, we can’t just keep pounding on each other like this. It’s a great team to be around

“Great problem. Great, great, great problem,” Moore laughed.

Again, 2021 through 2023 for the maize & blue has been about as good as it gets in the sport beyond a select few. It has featured a record of 30-3 overall, including an undefeated season in ’23. It also includes three consecutive Big Ten Championships, three straight berths in the College Football Playoff, and the most recent national title, which was their first since 1997.

Still, change and transition has hit the Wolverines hard this offseason. They lost plenty off that championship team, whether in players or their staff. That leaves Moore behind as their next leader of this upcoming team in what we all know is an ever-changing space in college athletics.

With that said, the work is going to remain what it’s about at Michigan according to Moore. That’s what he says will keep them at the level they’ve been at as they begin his tenure starting this fall.
