'Trying to make' - Paul Scholes argues Euro 2024 team 'will miss' influence of one important Man Utd star as he sends out clear-cut warning

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has insisted that England will “miss the experience” of one key player at Euro 2024 in Germany this summer.

The Three Lions, who are one of the tournament favourites, will begin their Euro 2024 campaign on 16th June with their Group C opener against Serbia.

England have been placed in Group C alongside Serbia, Slovenia and Denmark after an impressive Euro 2024 qualifying campaign under Gareth Southgate.

Gareth Southgate’s men finished ahead of Euro 2020 champions Italy in Group C in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, with the Three Lions winning six of their eight matches.

England, who were undefeated in their qualifying campaign, have struggled with their form in the build-up to the forthcoming UEFA tournament in Germany.

The Three Lions have won only one of their last five matches under Southgate, who is out of contract with England in December.

Southgate, who was linked with Manchester United in the past, will take charge of the Three Lions at his fourth major international tournament as England manager.

Scholes speaks out on Man Utd star

Manchester United players have been included in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man England squad for the Three Lions’ Euro 2024 campaign.

Southgate initially announced a provisional 33-man England squad before his selection was whittled down to 26 ahead of the tournament.

Kobbie Mainoo was among the United players selected for England after his impressive breakout season at Old Trafford.

Luke Shaw has also been included in the England squad, but the United defender has been recovering from injury and could miss the Three Lions’ Euro 2024 opener.

Harry Maguire was in the England camp in March before the former United captain was forced to pull out of international duty due to injury.

But the 31-year-old England defender failed to make Southgate’s 26-man England squad and Harry Maguire has since broken his silence over missing the Euros.

Paul Scholes took to Instagram Stories and admitted that England “will miss” the experience of Maguire, who has been a key player under Southgate.

“Trying to make my mind up about this England squad, love him or hate [sic] will miss the experience of [Harry] Maguire defensively,” Scholes wrote.

“LB [left-back] a big problem, major lack experience in mf [midfield] but [Declan] Rice is good enough to bring all together.”

Scholes on Marcus Rashford England snub

Marcus Rashford is another experienced United player who won’t feature for England at Euro 2024.

The 26-year-old United star, who broke his silence over missing out on Euro 2024, struggled with his form during the 2023-24 season at Old Trafford.

Scholes admitted that England will miss the “know-how” of a player like Marcus Rashford and could be a “big mistake” for Southgate to leave him out.

The United legend added: “Worried about forward line, obvs love [Phil] Foden/[Harry] Kane/[Bukayo] Saka…honestly think not having the major tournament know-how of Rashford and [Jack] Grealish as back-up (been there and done it) is a big mistake!!”
