One of Louisiana’s top defensive backs attended LSU’s Elite Camp on Thursday and walked away with a verbal scholarship offer from the Tigers.

Destrehan 2025 safety Jhase Thomas has been firmly on LSU safeties coach Jake Olsen‘s radar this offseason, and he’s made multiple trips to campus over the spring.

After a strong showing at camp, which included a pair of 40-yard dash times reportedly in the 4.4 range, LSU head coach Brian Kelly chatted with Thomas and the offer was delivered.

For Olsen, it’s the first Louisiana safety prospect the Tigers have offered for the 2025 class.

Destrehan was well-represented at LSU Elite Camp on Thursday as 2025 wide receiver Phillip Wright and 2026 wide receiver Jabari Mack were also in attendance. After LSU signed Destrehan edge rusher Kolaj Cobbins in the 2024 class, will Thomas be the prospect that makes it back-to-back years of additions out from the Wildcats?

Whether it’s been on-field coaches like Olsen or off-field staff like Sherman Wilson, Thomas said the relationships he’s made at LSU have been pivotal this offseason.

“The coaching staff always shows a lot of love every time I come to Baton Rouge,” he told The Bengal Tiger staff. “They show they want me and appreciate me over there. I talk with Coach Olsen and Coach Sherman a lot. I am also in contact with people on the defensive side of the ball like Coach Corey Raymond and Coach Blake Baker.

“Coach Olsen texts me every day, pretty much. I am building a really good relationship with him. We talk football, but we also talk stuff outside of football and all that. He is a very down to the earth guy.”

With former Destrehan star Justin Jefferson landing the biggest non-quarterback contract in NFL history, and former Destrehan 5-star John Emery choosing to withdraw his name from the NCAA Transfer Portal and return to LSU for a final season this fall, the Destrehan to LSU pipeline is flowing.

Now, Thomas has a chance to be next in a long line of elite talent to leave Destrehan and head to LSU.

“The Destrehan to LSU legacy is crazy,” Thomas said. “We’ve had a lot of former players be really successful there, and they use that in recruiting with Destrehan guys. They let us know that the Destrehan guys can come to LSU and be successful. All the Jefferson brothers were successful there, John Emery was a great player from Destrehan, and now Kolaj Cobbins is over there. It’s going to be fun to watch.”
