How To Watch: No. 1 Tennessee vs. No. 8 Florida State in the College World Series

Game day at the College World Series is here, with No. 1 Tennessee (55-12) facing No. 8 Florida State (47-15) in the opening round at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. Eastern Time start and will be televised by ESPN.

North Carolina (47-14) and Virginia (46-15) are on the other side of the bracket from the Vols and Seminoles. The winners from the first two games in Bracket 1 will meet on Sunday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2. The losers will play Sunday at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN in the double-elimination format.

Bracket 2 is made up of Kentucky-North Carolina State and Texas A&M-Florida in the eight team field.

The winners from the two brackets will meet in a three-game championship series beginning June 22.

Starting Pitchers

Tennessee will start left-hander Chris Stamos, who has given up three runs on four hits over just 1.2 innings pitched over his last two starts. He lasted just a third of an inning against Northern Kentucky in the Knoxville Regional, giving up a run on two hits, and went 1.1 innings against Evansville in the Knoxville Super Regional, giving up two runs on two hits.

Stamos this season has a 4.02 ERA in 20 appearances, making nine starts while pitching 31.1 innings. He’s given up 14 runs on 21 hits with 35 strikeouts against 15 walks.

Florida State is going with its ace, Jamie Arnold. The sophomore lefty threw 121 pitches on Saturday, working 5.1 innings in the Tallahassee Super Regional against UConn, giving up six runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts and no walks.

On the season he’s 11-3 with a 2.77 ERA over 100.2 innings pitched with 155 strikeouts against just 22 walks.

How They Got Here

Florida State has won five straight NCAA Tournament games. The Noles swept through the Tallahassee Regional then swept UConn in the Super Regional last week, winning 24-4 in Game 1 and 10-8 in 12 innings in Game 2.

FSU is in the College World Series for the 27th time in program history but are back in Omaha for the first time since 2019.

Tennessee beat Evansville 12-1 in Game 3 Sunday night, winning the Knoxville Super Regional after setting a single-game postseason program record with seven home runs in the win. Tennessee swept the Knoxville Regional two weeks ago and won 11-6 Friday in Game 1 against Evansville.

The Vols are in the College World Series for the second straight season, the third time in four years and seventh time in program history.
