Celtic and the EURO 2024 scouting opportunity

Celtic fans will be tuned into EURO 2024 this summer and there will be plenty of intriguing developments over the next few weeks on the international stage.

With the close season in full swing, most talk in Parkhead circles right now is centred around potential transfer activity, given the window has officially opened for business today.

Concluding deals in the middle of a major tournament may be difficult. Understandably, those involved will want to give 100% of their energy to the task at hand; meanwhile, others may use it as a shop window to prove their credentials.

In my opinion, this is where Celtic should be sitting up and taking notice as they recruit in key positions for the 2024/25 campaign.

Celtic should have an eye on EURO 2024 this summer

There is a good chance that Celtic will already have some form of scouting work planned for EURO 2024. Most clubs will; it is just the way modern football works in this day and age.

Nevertheless, some hidden gems could come to the fore in Germany, especially those who are plying their trade for nations who aren’t expected to win first prize.

Casting an eye over the group stage could be a useful endeavour for club chiefs, especially in matches where one of the favourites are in action against sides they are expected to defeat.

Being noticed in football often doesn’t arise from whether you are on the winning side, it comes to light based on individual performance, game intelligence, spatial awareness and the ability to show resilience when the going gets tough.

The Bhoys are set to frequent the new Champions League format next term, where they will face off against eight different opponents, likely producing some ties against the elite.

If Celtic can spot players who apply themselves well on the international stage against some of the most talented outfits in the world, who is to say that couldn’t translate over to club level?

Whether you are in Germany, enjoying a holiday with the family or simply watching at home, a feast of football is set to engulf the wider public conscience for the next month. That isn’t even factoring in Copa America, which I apply the exact same logic towards.

There is value for Celtic to be found in these surroundings, so don’t be surprised if interest emerges in some men on duty with their respective nations.
