It’s time to dive into Friday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with a recap of what was a busy Thursday for the Nittany Lions. Head coach James Franklin, his 10 on-field assistants, head strength coach Chuck Losey, newly-hired Director of Performance Science Andrew Nelson, and a few players all spoke with reporters prior to the 21st annual Lift for Life inside of Holuba Hall. There were many takeaways you can read more about in the links section below. The top highlights included Franklin revealing junior Drew Shelton, the expected new starter at left tackle, is fully cleared to participate in all team activities following offseason surgery that kept him out of spring practice.

We also now know that Class of 2024 signee and Philadelphia receiver Tyseer Denmark has officially enrolled. Penn State has not picked any captains yet because its not yet prepared to do so because players need more time to “earn” the honor. And, of course, Franklin was asked about his White Out game preferences as the program waits to announce when that annual spectacle will be held this season.

“I’m probably a lot like the fans in terms of, I want it all,” Franklin said, adding he does not yet know when the game will be. “And very few times in life do you get it all. You’d like the opponent and the time of day, for sure. But again, that’s challenging. The time-of-day thing is what’s really become more difficult because of when primetime games now are chosen. … Now, based on the different TV networks, it could be at 12, 7, or 3:30,. You don’t know based on what they think is going to draw the most eyes. I’m like the fans. I’d like it all but don’t know that yet.”

A final Lift for Life fundraiser total for the rare disease community was not available as of Friday morning.

Quote of the day

“Coming in, people were talking about Drew (Allar) in the quarterback room, the line. And then you think about the running backs and tight ends. There was some depth in those two rooms. And then they’re talking about receivers. I think they’ve unfairly become the brunt of the reason there was limited success, if you want to call it that, or there was a ceiling.

“I think those guys are going to overachieve next year in everyone’s eyes. And I feel confident saying that. So, that’s my evaluation of them, especially after being with them through the spring.”
