Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan earlier this month claimed the first outdoor NCAA title in the men’s shot put.
He’s one of just 17 throwers in NCAA history to win indoor and outdoor titles in a single season. Robinson-O’Hagan is the first true sophomore since Auburn’s Edis Elkasevic in 2005.
“Competition is competition,” Robinson-O’Hagan said. “I don’t care who is in the competition, I’m not scared of anyone. Nobody makes me nervous.”
Robinson O’Hagan won by nearly two feet with his toss of 68 feet and six inches. He also finished an Ole-Miss-record seventh in the hammer. He’s the third-youngest thrower, and only the fourth in Division I, to sweep at 20 years old or younger.
Robinson O’Hagan is already a seven-time All-American. His is the first-ever championship for Ole Miss in the men’s shot put. However, it’s the Rebels’ eighth overall in men’s competition.
Robinson O’Hagan is one of 17 to sweep in a single season and the youngest since Mike Stulce (Texas A&M) in 1989.
“My legs were pretty dead, and I still hit that last throw,” Robinson-O’Hagan said. “That’s just from no one being ahead of me and having the free throw. You always hit a free throw.”
