When Joe Biden met with European officials at the 2024 G7 Summit in Italy, the New York Post showed a heavily edited video that, Post critics say, was designed to give the false impression that the 81-year-old U.S. president suffered a mental lapse.

The Post — which is part of Rupert Murdoch's media empire along with Fox News, Fox Business and the Wall Street Journal — claimed, "Biden appears to wander off at G7 Summit, has to be pulled back to group of world leaders."

On X, formerly Twitter, the Post has been drawing vehement criticism for airing a deceptively edited video designed to give a false impression about Biden.

Journalist John Harwood, a former reporter for the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times, angrily tweeted, "Garbage Murdoch newspaper lying again."

Similarly, Biden White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates explained why the Post video was so deceptive, tweeting, "The Murdoch outlets are so desperate to distract from @POTUS's record that they just lie. Here, they use an artificially narrow frame to hide from viewers that he just saw a skydiving demonstration. He's saying congratulations to one of the divers and giving a thumbs up."

According to Harwood, "Biden was greeting skydivers who were cropped out of the video to mislead gullible viewers into thinking he was confused. part of a nonstop campaign of dishonesty by Trump and his allies."

OGM News cited the video as an example of "right-wing media continuing attacks on Biden's mental status."

Attorney/trial lawyer Steven Zapiler said of the edited video, "What that more expanded shot shows is a leader that is curious and noticing and encouraging another young soldier with no one paying attention to him for the same demonstration. These are qualities of President Biden's character."

Conservative former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Illinois), an outspoken Donald Trump, told the Post, "You're a joke of a paper. He was communicating with the sky diving team. Why not show the whole clip?"

Democratic strategist Chris D. Jackson tweeted, "You can see here that multiple skydivers were landing, and Biden was gesturing and talking to the one to the right of the screen." And Jackson added, "It's a shame this kind of" nonsense "is all they have."

MeidasTouch's Ron Filipkowski posted, "This is what you guys are doing now? Cutting the person he's talking to out of the clip to intentionally mislead?
