Celtic's striker dilemma and the Bojan Miovski question this summer

Celtic have a striker dilemma on their hands as Brendan Rodgers looks to cultivate his frontline ahead of the new season.

Despite Adam Idah’s fantastic loan spell in the second half of last campaign, the Irishman is now back at Norwich City, and there may be a frustrating wait to see if the club can land him permanently.

Johannes Hoff Thorup wants to evaluate him in pre-season, so it may be a few more weeks before Rodgers finds out if he is available after indicating he would like to see him return.

Hyeongyu Oh appears set to depart for Genk in a deal worth £4.2 million plus add-ons, which would leave Kyogo Furuhashi as the sole striker with senior experience at Parkhead.

Evaluating January targets at Celtic and the domestic scene, there is a standout candidate who is likely to be heralded as a potential arrival this campaign by supporters desperate for a new number nine.

Bojan Miovski and the summer ahead for Celtic

Aberdeen star Bojan Miovski was linked to Celtic during the winter transfer window and is reportedly admired by Rodgers into the bargain, which won’t come as a major surprise.

Per Transfermarkt, he enjoyed a remarkable 2023/24 campaign, registering 26 goals and four assists in 53 appearances across all competitions.

Whether Celtic could revisit a potential swoop remains to be seen; however, he certainly has the talent they are looking for to freshen up their attack. The main sticking point in this scenario could be his price tag. At the time, it was mooted that Celtic may need to exceed the all-time transfer fee between two Scottish clubs (£4.4 million, Scott Brown) to land their man.

Nevertheless, he would likely go for more than that now amid his free-scoring run at Pittodrie. Aberdeen may also prefer to sell him to a club not based in the Scottish Premiership, so they don’t have to contend with facing him in the future.

Granted, he would be an expensive signing for Celtic, but if there was common ground to be found, he would be an excellent acquisition.

Idah’s future is unclear, and the club won’t wait forever to find out if they can obtain him permanently. Thus, there is a scenario where they could be forced back to the drawing board, and Miovski may well crop up in the discussion.
