Police appeal to identify man after phone stolen from beauty salon in Bishop’s Stortford

Police investigating the distraction theft of a mobile phone from a beauty salon in Bishop’s Stortford are appealing for the public’s help to identify a man they want to speak to.

The incident happened at a salon in Newtown Road on Monday June 3 at around 10.10am.

A man went in and said he wanted to make an appointment for his wife. While doing so, he put a piece of paper over a phone on the counter, picked it up and left.

Sgt Andy Crow, from the Bishop’s Stortford neighbourhood policing team, said: “We’d like to identify the person pictured as we believe they may be able to assist our ongoing enquiries. If this is you or you recognise them, please get in touch.

“We’ve had reports of two similar incidents in Bishop’s Stortford and Sawbridgeworth recently. CCTV enquiries are being carried out.

“In the meantime, I would urge people to please remain vigilant as it takes just seconds for a distraction thief [to] strike. Please ensure that all valuable items are kept safely out of sight and report any suspicious activity to police straight away.”
