'I would like to see him deliver': Stuart Pearce says he wants one Man City player to shine at the Euros

Stuart Pearce has named one Manchester City player he hopes has a strong tournament in the Euros.

Having brought an end to another successful season, which saw the Manchester club win the UEFA SuperCup, FIFA Club World Cup and a fourth consecutive Premier League title, the focus for a lot of figures in the City squad will now be on the European Championship.

In fact, the Blues have more players representing their countries in the Euros (14) than any other side in the Premier League.

Ahead of the tournament, Pearce pinpointed one particular player in Pep Guardiola’s ranks that he wants to see shine in Germany over the next month.

Stuart Pearce wants Phil Foden to be a star player in the Euros

When assessing which players could stand out in the tournament, Pearce said this on the matter in a recent video shared on the talkSPORT YouTube channel.

He said: “If you are asking me, Phil Foden, 24 years old now. Not a pup, scored a lot of goals this season. I am looking forward to seeing him. I would like to see him deliver and have a good tournament for us.”

Foden must take City form to the Euros for England

Looking back over his most recent campaign with the Blues, the 24-year-old scored 27 goals and delivered 12 assists in 53 games across all competitions.

With 19 of those goals and eight of those assists coming in the Premier League, the midfielder not only played a big part in seeing City win another title but was also named the Player of the Season.

In fact, Alan Shearer said that Foden was “unplayable” at times during the campaign, further highlighting how much of a top season he’s had.

Taking all of that into account, it’s easy to see why Pearce is looking forward to seeing the City star in action for England at the Euros.

In our view, if Foden can replicate the form he’s shown in a City shirt this season for England over the next few weeks, he would give the Three Lions a great chance of winning the competition.
