'I'm hoping' - two former Man Utd stars simply could not agree after their predictions for Euro 2024 winner

Former Manchester United stars Bastian Schweinsteiger and Dimitar Berbatov did not see eye to eye in their predictions for the winner of Euro 2024 this summer.

UEFA’s latest European Championship tournament will officially begin on Friday when host nation Germany face Scotland in their Group A opener in Munich.

Italy are the current European Championship title holders and the Euro 2020 champions begin their campaign on Saturday with their encounter against Albania.

Luciano Spalletti’s Italian side are not seen as one of the favourites to win Euro 2024, with Germany, France, England or Portugal tipped to win the competition.

Several Manchester United players have been called up for their respective countries at Euro 2024, including the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo.

Schweinsteiger makes Euro 2024 prediction

Manchester United reached out to several former players and asked them for their predictions on the one team that will lift the Henri Delaunay trophy.

The Premier League club shared the results on their Instagram page, including an Instagram exchange with Bayern Munich legend Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Schweinsteiger, who played under Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho at United, has predicted a Euro 2024 final between Germany and England.

Germany, who were knocked out of the last 16 at Euro 2020 by England, are in Group A alongside Scotland, Hungary and Switzerland at Euro 2024.

Schweinsteiger has backed his native home country to beat England in a potential Euro 2024 final while teasing that he hopes it happens in a penalty shootout.

Speaking to United’s Instagram page, the 2014 World Cup winner said: “Hi, guys. I’m hoping for Germany vs England.

“And, of course, Germany would win the final – in a penalty shootout.”

Berbatov disagrees with Schweinsteiger’s prediction

Gareth Southgate’s England side will begin their Euro 2024 campaign on Sunday with their Group C opener against Serbia.

The Three Lions boss has been in charge of England for the last three major international tournaments and he has failed in his bid to secure silverware.

Gareth Southgate, who was linked with United in recent months, is out of contract in December and he could make his exit from the Three Lions after Euro 2024.

England are in Group C alongside Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia, with Southgate’s men widely tipped to reach the knockout stage of Euro 2024 in Germany.

Former United striker Dimitar Berbatov, unlike Schweinsteiger, has backed England to capture the Henri Delaunay trophy this summer.
