Brian Daboll and the New York Giants are ready to let Jalin Hyatt loose during his sophomore season in the NFL.
The former third-round pick flashed during his rookie season, to the tune of 23 receptions for 373 receiving yards, but his first touchdown has eluded him. However, that had more to do with the Giants’ shoddy quarterback play and make-shift offensive line in 2023, which never allowed Hyatt to use his game-breaking speed.
Ahead of his second season in the NFL, Hyatt is looking to take another step forward in his development, and become a player similar to the one he was in college. Speaking with the media, Daboll updated the football world on the improvement of the wide receiver, and where he currently stands with the Giants.
“There’s a lot to learn as a rookie, so he was trying to pick up how we do things here, the playbook. I’d say this offseason, in terms of breaking the huddle, getting aligned, knowing what to do, I think he’s made a tremendous improvement in that area,” Daboll said, regarding the former Tennessee star pass catcher. “You could tell he’s been in the system for a year. He’s playing with some confidence, in terms of the pre snap stuff, which allows him to play faster post-snap. So he’s done a good job.
“He’s improved, from Year 1 to Year 2. He’s really done a good job, I would say, in these OTAs, of improving each day. I’m pleased with where he’s at. … He’s made progress. I think he’s improved, and I’m happy with where he’s at.”
As you can tell, Jalin Hyatt has a ton of fans in New York, and he’s working towards becoming a major figure within the Giants offense. Whether that happens in 2024 remains to be seen, but the potential is there for the former SEC superstar.
Daniel Jones is ‘still making progress’ in recovery, per Brian Daboll
After another week of working back from a knee-injury that ended his 2023 campaign, Daniel Jones is looking to get back to leading the New York Giants during the 2024 NFL season.
With that in mind, Giants head coach Brian Daboll is hoping we see more of Jones’ 2022 form, ahead of the duo’s third season together. That was the season that convinced a new regime that the former Duke Blue Devils quarterback was the one to lead the Giants for the foreseeable future.
However, some major injuries have kept Jones out over the last year, a neck injury suffered against the Miami Dolphins caused him to miss about a month, and the a torn ACL suffered against the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023 ended his campaign.
He’s looking like recovery is going well, if you go off of social media videos, but Daboll spoke with reporters about Jones’ progress on Friday, and where the quarterback currently stands.
“He’s still making progress,” Daboll said on Friday, regarding the former first-round pick’s injury status. “He’ll be in for 7-on-7 today. That’s kind of been the plan, all along. We’ll re-assess after this week. But he’s coming along, making progress.”
Time will tell if Daniel Jones’ game is elevated in 2024. If not, his time in East Rutherford could run out, as the Giants have an out in his contract after this season. It’s up to him to force their hand, and stay in control.
