On Friday, Ohio State head coach Bill Mosiello announced he was leaving the program to return to TCU as the Horned Frogs’ top assistant and hitting coach. Mosiello only spent two seasons at the helm of the Buckeyes. Former Ohio State players did not hesitate to address Mosiello’s decision.
“Unbelievable. was always one foot in!” former Ohio State standout pitcher Connor Curlis wrote on X. “[Ohio State baseball] deserves way better and it’s time to find that.”

Curlis played at Ohio State from 2016-18 under head coach Greg Beals. While with the Buckeyes, Curlis recorded 160.2 innings pitched and a 3.92 ERA. Further, he tallied 134 career strikeouts compared to only 48 walks.
Since moving on from OSU, Curlis has participated in the minor leagues. He wasn’t the only one who voiced his opinion on Mosiello’s stunning move.
“Its a privilege to wear the Block [O] and we need to find someone that understands that and will lead by examples, not by words,” former Ohio State pitcher TJ Brock wrote.
Brock also did not play under Mosiello and moved on from the program in 2022. Nonetheless, both former Buckeyes want the best for their beloved alma mater.

In his two seasons at Ohio State, Mosiello tallied a 60-51 record and a 21-27 mark in conference play. Despite finishing with an overall worse record during the 2024 campaign, the Buckeyes showed improvement, finishing seventh in the conference standings, four spots higher than Mosiello’s debut season with the program.
In his return to TCU, Mosiello will fill the spot left by assistant TJ Bruce, who is taking the head job at Long Beach State. Mosiello spent nine seasons with the Horned Frogs from 2014-22, boosting the program to seven NCAA Tournament appearances and four College World Series.
“It was the easiest decision ever. I’ve got to be with my family,” Mosiello said of his decision, per The Columbus Dispatch. “I’ve been away from my family for the past two years. So that was it. Columbus was awesome. The people were awesome. It’s a horrible situation having to leave the players and the way it has to go. There’s just no right way to do it.
“Me chasing my ambition here at my dream job to be away from my family, I wanted it so bad and make it work,” Mosiello continued. “It just couldn’t happen. It couldn’t happen. It’s really that simple.”
