Michigan State received yet another 2025 commitment when landing wide receiver Charles Taplin of Red Oak (Texas) High School. Taplin announced his decision via social media on June 14.

Michigan State wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins and offensive graduate assistant Cordale Grundy offered Taplin (6-2, 160) in May. He quickly set up an official visit to East Lansing for the weekend of June 7. He committed to the Spartans and shut down his recruitment following the visit. Taplin visited East Lansing with his mother and his older sister.

Taplin is not yet ranked in the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings, but he has been tabbed as a three-star by other outlets. He held additional offers from Washington State and Arizona, among others.

Taplin nabbed 20 catches for 467 yards and four touchdowns as a junior in 2023. He also runs track for Red Oak High School.

“(Hawkins) likes that I am a good person, first off,” Taplin told SpartanMag. “They want good people in their facilities. They also like that I have a long frame, I’m fast, I have good hands and good route running. I know the game of football and how to read defenses. They gave me a player comparison of Justin Jefferson.”

Taplin becomes Michigan State’s eighth 2025 commitment, joining Ohio’s Braylon Collier as the second wide receiver in the class. Taplin also joins offensive lineman Drew Nichols as players who committed to Michigan State following their June 7 official visit. Nichols committed to the Spartans on Monday.

Michigan State also holds commitments from California quarterback Leo Hannan, Wisconsin tight end Emmett Bork and in-state running back Jace Clarizio on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively, the Spartans hold commitments from a pair of in-state linebackers in Charles White and DiMari Malone.
