German national media react to Kai Havertz's performance as a striker in Euro 2024 opener last night

Arsenal star Kai Havertz started for Germany against Scotland in the opening game of Euro 2024.

Julian Nagelsmann‘s side started the tournament in fantastic style. They dominated the game from start to finish and picked up a convincing 5-1 win against the Scots.

Many Arsenal fans were glued to their television screens – not because they cared about the result but to watch how Havertz would fare.

The German got the nod up front against Scotland on Friday night, and despite a slow start, he produced a fantastic display to help his side pick up the win.

Havertsz also scored a goal and picked up an assist, which made his performance look all the more better.

German media deliver verdict on Arsenal star Kai Havertz’s performance vs Scotland

Euro 2024 is a huge tournament for Germany. They are the host nation and are under huge pressure to do well this summer.

Nagelsmann has a solid squad at his disposal, but Germany are still not viewed as the favourites. In fact, they aren’t even in many people’s top three.

That put even more pressure on them in the opening game of the Euros, but Germany stepped up and delivered. They were fantastic from the first minute until the last.

Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala were the stars of the show for Germany, but Havertz had a fantastic game too having started the game up front.

A number of German media outlets have had their say on the Arsenal man’s performance.

Note: Ratings in Germany are from one to five, with one given to the best and five to the worst

Sky Sports Germany gave Havertz a score of one and wrote: “Impressively underlined why Nagelsmann sees him a tad ahead of Füllkrug. Brilliant as a technically adept wall player and skillfully used his colleagues again and again. Crowned his strong performance with the penalty goal.”

German outlet RAN gave Havertz a score of two and wrote: “First choice in the storm center. Justified the trust before the break with an assist and a converted penalty. Creates gaps by running deep and repeatedly passes the ball to the colleagues who are moving up. Good game from the Arsenal star.

BILD also gave him a score of two but were a little critical of how he started the game. “Initially unhappy with a few actions. But then definitively converted his penalty.”

Havertz’s stats vs Scotland are very impressive

Havertz received a standing ovation from the home fans when he was replaced after the hour mark.

The German was fantastic against the Scots. Yes, he got a few of his touches wrong early in the game, but his movement and the way he combined with his teammates were just exceptional.

According to Squawka, along with his goal and assist, Havertz finished the game with 100% shot accuracy, 100% aerial duels won, 25 touches, 10 passes into the final third and four touches in the opposition box.

It was a fantastic way for the Arsenal man to start the Euros, and if he can keep performing in the same way, Germany have every chance of going the distance this summer.

Irrespective of what happens at the Euros, Arsenal fans should be excited about Havertz ahead of the 2024/25 season.
