Man City transfer target proved in latest international match why he’d be perfect for Pep Guardiola - opinion

One of Manchester City’s reported transfer targets delivered a top performance in his latest international appearance.

On Friday night, the 2024 European Championship kicked off as the hosts Germany thrashed Scotland 5-1.

In this opening game of the tournament, one player, who has been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium in recent weeks, showed how much of a top talent he is and why, in our view, he’d be a special signing for City and Pep Guardiola.

Jamal Musiala wowed in opening Euros game

Finding himself in Germany’s starting XI, the Bayern Munich midfielder, who is reportedly a top target for City to sign this summer according to The Guardian, completed 74 minutes before being substituted for Thomas Muller.

During his time on the pitch, the 21-year-old not only scored Germany’s second of the game with his only attempt at goal but he also showed how effective he can be on and off the ball.

For example, Musiala was able to accurately complete all 32 passes he attempted, in addition to successfully completing more dribbles than any other German player on the night (5).

Then in terms of his work out of possession, the midfielder won two tackles, made one interception, one clearance and won nine of the 15 duels he was involved in.

This display ultimately earned Musiala a strong match rating of 7.9/10 from SofaScore, making him the joint-second-highest rated player in the Germany team alongside Toni Kroos.

Musiala would be a dream signing for City

To further highlight how impressive the Bayern star is, Eric Dier described him back in April as the best young talent he’s ever seen.

Bearing in mind how Guardiola said in an interview with Sky Sports back in 2021 that possession is a key factor in how his City side play, having Musiala in their ranks who has proved himself to be very useful on the ball, could make him a perfect signing for the Blues boss.

With all of that in mind, we hope that this performance against Scotland will have urged the City officials to do all they can to land a deal for the Bayern star this summer.
